Huawei Honor 9 Lite Review, Pros and Cons 2018
In this post we will look into Huawei’s latest budget smartphone addition, Honor 9 Lite Review – its pros and cons. Honor 9 lite comes with an advanced quad lens setup, octa-core processor which clocks at 2.36 GHz and many more great features.
Last year Xiaomi took over the Indian smartphone industry for the best selling smartphone surpassing its competitor Samsung. Xiaomi’s phones have a whole market share of more than 25% in India whereas Samsung drops to 24%. Xiaomi’s market strategy was to bring higher quality smartphones with cheaper price. Now into that competition Huawei has also stepped in.
Previously Huawei released Honor View 10 which is powered by an advanced AI with an affordable price. In December 2017, Huawei announced a new budget premium smartphone ie Honor 9 Lite. Honor 9 Lite went for live sale in India from January 30th of 2018. Within 120 seconds the whole initial stock was bought. So lets get into details about what makes this phone so special.
Meanwhile you can watch our YouTube channel video explaining the features and showcasing the Honor 9 Lite.

1. Build Quality and Display
At first we will look into its premium build quality. Built from a single Aluminium Frame body with Dual 2.5D glass on back side which will definitely stand out in the crowd. On top of that the slim integrated design and PPVD (Patterned Physical Vapor Deposition) technology helps the light flow around the device bringing a more stunning experience.
The display screen is a clean bezel less build with a whooping 5.65 inch FULL View FHD+ screen. The ratio of display is 18:9 and the resolution is 2160 x 1080 pixels with approximately 428 ppi.
One of the most attractive feature of Honor 9 Lite is that it has an advanced Quad Lens setup for a camera. (This feature is only available in top brands high end devices and they are way too costly). Honor 9 Lite provides a total of 4 lens, 2 of them are in the rear and 2 in the front.
The gap between high and low end devices has been cleared by Huawei by bringing this high end model based feature to the Honor Lite 9 which is a premium budget phone. Now we can enjoy portrait photos that can be taken from rear cameras as well as front cameras. Good Day to all the Selfie maniac’s out there. (wait i am one too.. Haa.. Never mind)
Both the rear and front camera consist of one 13 Mega Pixel and 2 Mega Pixel camera with a 2.2 aperture for the rear and with 2.0 aperture for the front. The second 2 Mega Pixel camera is used to analyse the depth so that we will get high quality bokeh effect. (Thank You Huawei for bringing out the Bokeh effect in selfies as well).
The Honor 9 Lite is powered by its own processor family HiSilicon Kirin 659, which is an octa-core processor. Out of the 8 cores, four of them is clocked at 2.36 GHz and other four are clocked at 1.7 GHz. Huawei claims that, by using this processor it has enhanced the user experience with this 16nm built octa-core CPU.
The GPU used in Huawei Honor 9 Lite is the ARM Mali-T830 MP2 which has 2 Cores enables us to game seamlessly with the 8 core processor combined.
4. Miscellaneous Features
The fingerprint reader is placed in the rear side of the phone just below the camera in a centered position, which is used by most of the manufacturers. According to me this is the most accurate place for the fingerprint reader. Huawei claims that the longer you use the reader the faster it will become. Because the AI will study your behavior and fingerprint pattern, unlocking style etc.. which will allow to unlock the phone much faster. The fingerprint data is stored in an isolated encrypted storage which makes the stealing of bio-metric information nearly impossible.
OS - EMUI 8.0
Honor 9 Lite runs on EMUI 8.0 which is also developed by Huawei and is powered by Google’s latest Android OS Oreo 8. While there are many other budget smartphones who don’t yet provide Oreo update, this is a plus point for Honor 9 Lite. This means that Honor 9 Lite users will get access to Android Oreo features such as picture in picture, smart text selection, android rescue party and many more.
General and Battery
Honor 9 Lite has two hybrid nano sim slots, both of them support LTE as well. One of the slot can be utilized for increasing the external memory up to 256 GB. Honor 9 comes with a 3000 mAh battery which is very less comparing other competitors. However Huawei is saying that Honor 9 Lite comes with 6 different battery saving modes which helps the device to run a full day from single charging. According to their lab reports, we can listen to 86 hours of offline music or watch 13 hours of offline video with a single charge on this battery.
Variants and Colors
Honor 9 Lite comes in 2 variants, one of them is 3 GB RAM and 32 GB internal memory which is the starting variant and it costs around 11K Indian rupees (Buy it from here). The second one is 4 GB RAM and 64 GB internal memory variant which is the advanced version and costs around 15K Indian rupees (Buy it from here). The Color variants available are Midnight Black, Sapphire Blue and Glacier Blue.
For this price a quad lens setup with a FHD+ display of 5.65 inch with 2160 x 1080 pixel resolution is more than what anyone could ask for. Only problem that i found is that the battery capacity. Some reviews have already came in stating that the battery is not enough for this giant. but still this is a win-win situation for any budget smartphone users out there like me.
